Salmonella
Since
mid-April, people in several states have
been reported as having Salmonella Saintpaul. Harris
County Public Health and Environmental
Services is participating in a multi-state
investigation conducted by federal, state
and local health officials to try to
identify the cause of the outbreak. At this time,
FDA and CDC are advising consumers to avoid
eating
certain types of raw
jalapeno peppers, and raw serrano peppers
because they may be linked to illnesses
in this continuing outbreak; however,
the investigation is ongoing.
Salmonella
Saintpaul is a diarrheal illness that
can cause fever and
stomach cramps.
Most people recover without medical
treatment but some people may become ill
enough to require medical treatment and
hospitalization. Persons who have symptoms
of Salmonella should contact their
healthcare provider.
