Salmonella

Since mid-April, people in several states have been reported as having Salmonella Saintpaul.  Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services is participating in a multi-state investigation conducted by federal, state and local health officials to try to identify the cause of the outbreak.  At this time, FDA and CDC are advising consumers to avoid eating certain types of raw jalapeno peppers, and raw serrano peppers because they may be linked to illnesses in this continuing outbreak; however, the investigation is ongoing  

Salmonella Saintpaul is a diarrheal illness that can cause fever and stomach crampsMost people recover without medical treatment but some people may become ill enough to require medical treatment and hospitalization.  Persons who have symptoms of Salmonella should contact their healthcare provider.
