Environmental Public Health Division
About Us
The Environmental Public Health Division works to protect
public health by ensuring clean air and water, the integrity of the food
supply, neighborhood cleanliness, hazard-free workplaces and proper
waste disposal. These objectives are accomplished through the following
activities:

Securing
compliance with State rules on air, food safety, water,
wastewater and solid waste and County rules on storm
water through surveillance, monitoring and inspections
-
Responding to
citizen complaints on air, food, water, solid waste,
wastewater, water supply and nuisances
-
Permitting
food establishments and reviewing proposed State air,
wastewater and solid waste permit issuance and renewals
-
Conducting
laboratory analyses of water, soil and solid waste
samples
-
Reducing lead
poisoning through screening children, case managing
children with lead poisoning and removing lead-based
paint from qualifying homes
-
Conducting
on-site assessments of potential indoor air pollution
and occupational safety health hazards at small
businesses
-
Abating
neighborhood nuisances such as abandoned and unsafe
buildings through owner notification and demolition
-
Issuing
violation notices, assessing and compiling reports and
evidence for litigation and coordinating the
administration of certain penalties for environmental
projects
