About Us

The Environmental Public Health Division works to protect public health by ensuring clean air and water, the integrity of the food supply, neighborhood cleanliness, hazard-free workplaces and proper waste disposal.  These objectives are accomplished through the following activities:

  • Securing compliance with State rules on air, food safety, water, wastewater and solid waste and County rules on storm water through surveillance, monitoring and inspections

  • Responding to citizen complaints on air, food, water, solid waste, wastewater, water supply and nuisances

  • Permitting food establishments and reviewing proposed State air, wastewater and solid waste permit issuance and renewals

  • Conducting laboratory analyses of water, soil and solid waste samples

  • Reducing lead poisoning through screening children, case managing children with lead poisoning and removing lead-based paint from qualifying homes

  • Conducting on-site assessments of potential indoor air pollution and occupational safety health hazards at small businesses

  • Abating neighborhood nuisances such as abandoned and unsafe buildings through owner notification and demolition

  • Issuing violation notices, assessing and compiling reports and evidence for litigation and coordinating the administration of certain penalties for environmental projects
