Refugee Health Screening ProgramThe Harris County Public Health & Environmental Services (HCPHES) Refugee Health Screening Program (RHSP) contracts with the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) to oversee refugee health screening in Harris County. Refugees (and asylum seekers) are officially recognized individuals by the United States Government. These individuals arrive in Harris County every year. Texas is the third largest refugee resettlement state in the United States. HCPHES RHSP currently serves as the largest refugee health screening program in Texas. View the HCPHES RHSP arrival statistics for the 2007 program year.The HCPHES RHSP provides medical screenings to refugees. These screenings include: a physical examination, skin testing for tuberculosis, laboratory and parasite testing, and required immunizations.
