Public Education & Outreach Activities
|
Public Education:
Conduct public
education for the Healthy Homes Initiative that
addresses multiple housing-related diseases and injuries
in children and older adults. This program is be based
upon appropriate health education theories. For example,
the intent of the Social Cognitive Theory is for
participants to change their health behaviors and adopt
new behaviors in order to cause changes in their
environment and within themselves. Within this program
we utilize a Healthy Homes visual model, Healthy Homes
Initiative check list, Healthy Homes Brochure
- Recruitment for
our educational sessions includes clinics, churches,
libraries, and community centers located within
targeted communities.
- Identify and
provide community resources for participants.
Public Outreach:
- Implementation of
culturally appropriate campaigns for libraries,
churches, community centers, agencies/organizations,
and events to increase awareness of environmental
risks, diseases and preventable injuries.
- Dissemination of
information and effective methods for preventing
housing-related diseases and injuries to low to
moderate income families.
- Increasing
awareness of community resources for healthy homes.
